Citron cuts one big lemon from yellow paper, tipped up to the right with its stalk and a deep green leaf, and letters your first names inside it by hand, with the date and the place lettered under it. Lemon slices do the rest: a slice is the rule on the invitation and the stop between the courses, a slice marks every place card and the table numbers sit inside big ones. With a photograph, the picture becomes a slice’s flesh, inside its rind and pith, laid over the lemon. On butter, on cobalt blue, on white or on sage.
