Coeur is a vintage heart cake of our own, painted in gouache and seen from above: a wide smooth top in pink icing, piped white and pink frills round its edge, glossy cherries all the way round and two piped bows on its top curves. Your first names are piped across its top as if with a piping bag, an “&” between them and the date piped smaller underneath; the details sit under the cake in small capitals. Add a photograph and it becomes a round sugar plaque in the middle of the cake, a ring of piped beads round it and your names piped round its foot. The reply card asks “Save me a slice?”, the place cards carry a pair of cherries, the table numbers are piped on the cake, the menu has a cherry between the courses, and every sign wears the cake’s top curves with their bows and cherries. Pink as painted, or the same cake in white with red cherries, pistachio or butter.
