Getaway is a vintage convertible of our own, painted in gouache from behind as it drives off: a bouquet tied to its boot with cream ribbon, bows on its fins and tin cans trailing on strings. It stands at the foot of the card with your wedding date on its number plate, your first names large above it with a little “and” written between them by hand. The reply card is a vanity plate that says RSVP, the table numbers are chrome number plates, a little car drives over every place card and the menu runs down the middle of the road. With a photograph, the picture sits above your names like a snapshot. A cherry red car, or the same car in powder blue, mint or butter yellow.
