Pedalo is a white swan pedal boat of our own, painted in gouache: a scalloped striped canopy over its seat, a little life ring on its side, and four tin cans on strings bobbing in its wake as it glides across a lily pond. Your first names stand big above it, a small italic “and” between them, and the date sits in the middle of a big painted life ring lettered round its band like a real one, “Save the date” over the top and your town along the bottom; add a photograph and it fills the ring. The reply card says “Hop aboard”, the place cards are water lilies, the table numbers are life rings, and every sign has the boat gliding along its foot. Pond as painted, or a pink, sky blue or butter canopy.
