Postmark strikes a post office cancellation big across the card: a heavy double ring with your two names running round it, one over the top and one under the foot, the date in tall capitals in its middle, and five wavy cancel lines running off the edge, all in one ink on a bold ground, a few degrees off square the way a hand stamps it. The words are typed like an address. The invitation is a typed letter with the postmark in its corner, the reply card the back of a postcard with the code in its stamp box, and the table number sits in the middle of a ring. With a photograph, your photograph becomes a perforated postage stamp. Cream on postal red, cream on navy, red on cream, or brown on kraft with the date in red.
