Tandem is a bicycle built for two, painted in gouache: a wicker basket of wildflowers on the front, cream ribbons streaming off the handlebars, a little pennant flying behind the back seat and five tin cans rattling along behind on strings. It rides along the foot of the card with your wedding date lettered on its pennant, your first names large above it with a little “and” written between them by hand. The reply card asks “Ride with us?” with its code in a bicycle wheel, each guest’s name is on the label of a tin can, the table numbers fly on a big pennant and ribbons wave between the courses of the menu. With a photograph, the picture is a round snapshot in a bicycle wheel above your names. A mint bicycle, or the same bicycle in butter yellow, cherry red or sky blue.
